BACKGROUND
Mt. Sipit Ulang
Yet another hiking destination in Rodriguez, Rizal is Mt. Sipit Ulang in Brgy. Mascap. This mountain, which literally means “crab’s claw”, is named after the claw-like rock formation at its pinnacle. Like many of the newly-discovered mountains in Rizal, Mt. Sipit Ulang features limestone trails and spectacular scenery at the top.

After an easy hike from Mt Oro, we headed to Mt Sipit Ulang. The mountain has two trails,  the Banayad trail and the Paniki trail. Banayad is the easier trail with a shorter route which avoids the rocky parts and goes straight to the summit while Paniki is a very rocky trail which features cave-like passages that gives everyone an exciting and fulfilling hike. It was named after the bats that dwell inside the cavernous structures under its rock formations.

The guide recommended to take the Paniki Trail to go up and use the other trail, the Banayad Trail,  to descend back to the jump-off point.  The initial part of the trail traces up a forest while the final part reveals the glorious limestone trail and rock formations.

Taken at the same time.

The trail was mostly covered by trees and bushes and passing under boulders and narrow rock formations.
We crossed several man-made bamboo bridges to transfer between gaps.
There were several openings inside the caves where only one person can pass through.
Challenging part was passing thru narrow passageways between boulders and crawling up sharp rock formations.
After an hour of some acrobatics and scrambling through boulders we came across a surprisingly well-conceived cave. We rested for a while while waiting for others. There was huge vine that I tried to climb.
"Baby Sipit" as what the guides called this boulder formation.
After 30 minutes from the cave we reached the summit of Mt. Sipit Ulang. Reaching the top of a mountain is always my goal. No matter what the altitude, it gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I set foot on the summit.
The main landmark of this mountain is the rock formation depicting a crab’s claw.
VIEW FROM THE SUMMIT
I would like to have this opportunity to introduce my new travel buddy.
1st summit of Dora.
We had our lunch and took some nap for an hour. Stores are available at the peak area of the mountain. They sell refreshments like ice-cold soft drinks, water and even ice candy.

We descended through Banayad trail. It was an easy hike back to the jump-off point. The trail is enjoyable as it is open, forested and just pure descend. We crossed two streams after going through the woods and the rockies. We reached the jump off after an 1 and 1/2 hour of trek then we proceed to Payaran falls.

Payaran Falls
Payaran Falls, is a multi-layered falls that offers a nice and relaxing cold water that you need after a tiring climb on Mt. Sipit Ulang. It's just a 45-minute walk and easy hike from the jump-off.
